Wait, first disney and marvel, now Nickelodeon and Tutles? I am joining you in the 'f***ing terified' booth.Azrael wrote:Peter Laird sells the ENTIRE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise to Nickelodean.

I'm really scared for the future of the Turtles right now. No, really scared doesn't quite say it. I'm f***ing terrified.
Plankton and the shredder, combining their might to steal the krabby patty formula from Splinter and Mr. Krabs... *shudder*

The link didn't work, Az... But I need to read nothing and I can say that it's a scary, terrifying, ugly, and horrible thing. *faints*

Re: Random News
The link does work. Perhaps you don't have the right plugin or such to view the site. That happens sometimes.
I get the terrifying feeling that this means the Turtles may just end up dumbed down even further than ever before. Many remember the 80's cartoon best, but that was such a radical departure from what the Turtles were. But that was the show that started such a large phenomenon; Nick has apparently said they're looking to focus on the silly tone of the 80's show.
That's bad enough, but I'm even more concerned about the comics. The original comics were FINALLY seeing release in collections. The first Collected Book volume of the remastered series released just this year. Now I have no idea where that is going to go; Nick is not in the comic book game and they may not be interested in preserving them at all.
I'm quite mad because I've waited literally years for the original stuff to get collected. Getting original issues is hardly an option, considering many of them go for asinine prices. Now I may not see it happen any further. It's not sitting well with me at all.

*pokes link* still not working, but whatever.
Do you think Nick would be THAT mean? Not preserve the comics? If yes, then I think I'm starting to have that channel.
TMNT in Nick... *faints again*

Re: Random News
I'm really not sure. They seem very interested in the style of the 80's cartoon, which was a bonafide phenomenon. The show was practically required watching when I was a kid. The comics that started it all were much darker; the original Turtles movie was far closer in tone to the comics than anything else ever was.
Like I said, Nick isn't in the comics business. The hope I have is that they do what most do with licenses like that and license the Turtles comic rights out to another publisher. Then not only would it be likely the old stuff would be reprinted, but there would be new comics by new creative teams as well. That's how the Transformers and GI Joe comics work.
Right now though, it's a big unknown. Mirage just released the first collected book, which was a massive six hundred page tome of early Turtles comics retoned by Peter Laird. There was supposed to be another down the line. Now that look like it's dashed by this deal, and that's what stings the most to me.
What the future of the Turtles will be is only a guess. Nick has already announced plans for a new CGI cartoon and a new film. They invested sixty million in getting this property and they're definitely not sitting on it. But everything else is in the air and I don't much care for the chances that Nick might just forget about the comics in order to draw more attention to the kid friendly stuff they're looking to do.
How the show itself will even fare, I'm not positive. Nicks bungling of Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't exactly a secret. If they can screw that up, they can screw marketing the Turtles up.

Oh Jesus. First Marvel goes to Disney, now this?
.
God, we're going to get pre-teen soap operas starring Leonardo (played by the ageless and magnificent Cam Clarke, natch) as a plucky middle school girl who faces every-day problems like the ones the kids at home deal with all the time.
I may vomit.

I think that'd be everyone's first reaction.

Bunny/Bat hybrids are taking over the world.
They demand carrots and Batman merchandise.
