Let's not forget Circle Jerks. My favorite punk band has always been The Ramones though. They're pretty much number one in my heart.RustleXer wrote:oh of course man, the dead kennedy's, they were inspirational on the punk scene in the U.S. Black Flag was good too and like NOFX, Rancid, The Little Kings, orange 9mm. good stuff
Shame that most punk went downhill since the eighties.

hmm true, there wasn't much in the 80's, but then in the 90's blink, green, the offspring tried to pick up some of the slack....
what about the sex pistols and the clash?! they were awesome too like the ramones.
well my band is trying to bring old school punk back but we're having trouble since no-one listens to old school punk anymore

Oh, sure. Hell, the Sex Pistols all but invented punk.what about the sex pistols and the clash?! they were awesome too like the ramones.
Offspring were the last punk band I thought was really good. Early Green Day was pretty good, but they've since gone down a very different road. They're not even really punk anymore.but then in the 90's blink, green, the offspring tried to pick up some of the slack....

hmm true, they're like no longer punk, they've moved onto the rock alternative/f**k the world scene. offspring are still trying to bring it but are having a hard time to sell out bands like fall out boy.... they use to be punk but then they changed and now i no longer like em.

Um... Hello? What about Social Distortion, Bad Religion, The Misfits, The New York Dolls, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, MOTORHEAD (yes, a metal band made its way on this list) Patti Smith... and punk in the 90's??? AFI? Vandals? Less than Jake? Pennywise? Even though almost all of it sucks lol.

Priest is only six years older, actually. Iron Maiden formed in '75 while Priest formed in '69. Maiden just didn't get a record out until '78.Rain_of_Tears wrote:Azrael wrote:Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are two of my all time favorite metal bands.Motorhead is right up there too, though.Rain_of_Tears wrote:the great, JUDAS PRIEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to see both bands live before too long. I had an opportunity to go with my parents back during the "Death on the Road" tour Iron Maiden did, but we were so low on funds at the time we ended up having to cancel said plans.

Ah yes, I had forgotten it was 75. I always think 78, I don't know why. But they didnt cut a record till 80'. Isn't that right?

Re: Random News
Well, yes and no. The debut album "Iron Maiden" did indeed release in 1980. However, they also had a demo tape circulating since '78, which was released the following year as "The Soundhouse Tapes". It had quite a few songs on it that ended up on the original album, so I suppose you could technically look at it as their debut, considering it was their first bit of recorded material. I look at it as their debut, at least, though it really depends on the person.Rain_of_Tears wrote:Azrael wrote:Priest is only six years older, actually. Oh yeah that's right. I heard their demo tape. It's legendary hehe. The only guy I don't really like in maiden is Dickenson, and I know I'll probably be shot for saying this, but he uses too much production in his voicethreads. It always sounded a little fake to me (I mean only in like 2-3 songs) but other than that, they have amazing musicians for a metal band, respectively...

I like Paul Di'Anno on vocals, but it's completely understandable why they booted him. His drug habits were utterly dragging the band down into the hole with him. The stories of Di'Anno and his habits screwing over the rest of the band members - sometimes he didn't even show up, leaving the rest of the band to try and salvage the mess with an instrumental set - is nigh legendary.
Bruce Dickinson is my favorite of their vocalists though. Blaze Bayley did well, but he simply did not have the range Bruce did. The band had to basically alter their style to accommodate for the second album with him and the whole thing suffered for it.
