Yep. They're shutting Nasa down.

Where did you read this? Nasa JUST discovered a bunch of possible Earth like planets as well as a possible Nemesis Sun in our own solar system. Doesn't sound like a space program shutting down. They DID shut down the use of a telescope though, so... that's a thing I guess?
If I'm wrong though, please link me to a news source.

Yeah, Nasa's shutting down their space shuttle program, at least. Here's an article:

Re: Random News
The Space Shuttle Program =/= to Nasa as a whole.
Also this sounds like they're just retiring the Space Shuttle Discovery. Which means that if and when they build a new one, they'll be using it. Which is good news since Discovery is pretty ancient by technological standards. Should they build a new one, it'll probably be at least twice as efficient.

Ahhh....Nasa. Before they go in space 'nasalnouts' smell everything that goes on the ship(if it smells bad-no go, if it smells good or ok-go).
The requirments are pretty tough(even if your just smelling things).

Re: Random News
Well, since we're talking about NASA and I think NASA an space are cool, I'll go back to something I mentioned earlier.
Recently, scientists have discovered something in our solar system, past pluto. And it's big. 4 times the size of Jupiter big.
And, we have no idea what it is yet. Is it a planet? Maybe. Is it a giant chunk of space debris coming to kill us? Who knows. Is it an alien on it's way home? Maybe.
But there's another option that has me excited, something that scientists have been theorizing for years, but could never prove.
It might be Nemesis.
What is Nemesis you ask? Why... it's our solar system's other star. You see, most solar systems are binary, they have two stars. It makes sense we do too, and if this is in fact that star (nicknamed Nemesis) then everything we thought we knew about our little corner of the universe has changed! How awesome would that be?
But... why does it have a scary name? Cause it kills stuff! Lots of stuff! Scientists believe that Nemesis might be responsible for all of earth's major extinctions, because it's gravity would be pretty much perfect for flinging giants life ending asteroids into us!
Should we be worried, is 2012 real? No, don't be silly. These extinctions happen like clockwork and we've still got tens of millions of years to go until we're due for a space rock death. We're MUCH more likely to nuke ourselves before then.
Yay science!
EDIT: Just for the sake of it, I will remind people that this is all just THEORY right now, albeit interesting. None of this is proven until we get more evidence of the matter.

Re: Random News
I don't know where you're getting your data, but I've never heard anything to suggest that most star systems are binary. They've shown and proven that binary star systems to exist, but even taking astronomy I never heard that most star systems were binary.
And logically it wouldn't make much sense for binary star systems to be more common than singular star systems, the probability of two stars being created in such locations and such mass and such, well, everything, that they neither suck one into the other, or fling each other into the far end of deep space, but actually orbit one another, seems... unlikely.

Re: Random News
I cannot name a specific source, as it's always been told to me by the science-y people in my life that half the stars we see in the sky are binary. And looking up the list of them, there are a Heck of a lot of them.

Re: Random News
Hmm, without a specific source, common sense rules in my mind. I'm sticking with it's unlike that they could come to orbit one another.
I won't deny that a good deal of stars are perhaps binary or multiples, after all they're created from the same material and could be created at the same time. It's just hard for me to believe that they could be so create so perfectly so that they orbit one another rather than falling into one another or throwing each other apart.
Granted in astrological terms, maybe most stars are binary and just currently in the process of crashing into each other or throwing each other across the galaxy.

Perfectly possible, I'm no astrophysicist by any means, I just find it an interesting topic to wonder about.
I don't like common sense when it comes to the universe myself, since the damn thing is ever expanding and infinite and huge that literally anything can happen somewhere out there. At least not my common sense, since I really, REALLY am no astrophysicist.

Re: Random News
Actually, I'd prefer it if they did like a Teen Titans redux. I mean the old show was great but looking at Young Justice they could've done so much better. Not to say that Young Justice is anything to create a forum over, but it's certainly a level more mature than the old Teen Titans cartoon.
Most likely though it'll just be Batman The Animated Series, which is nothing to scoff at, Superman The Animated Series, which is also good but in this case should really be admired for the fact that it's probably the reason they'll go with Batman The Animated Series and not a newer version of the Batman, since that will also let them do Batman & Superman The Animated Adventures, or whatever that joint show was called that was mini-episodes of the two in vaguely the same style as their animated series but not. Maybe Batman Beyond, if they're bringing back the old schools I don't see why not, but that's two hours right there... then Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, they'll probably stick to the half hour showings even if most of those were two part episodes. Young Justice and the plethora of new DC universe Animated Movies, plus their new Green Lantern thing which I really hope isn't going to be that cheesy 3d like the banner.
Maybe also Brave & The Bold and other such more recent shows. Really they'd be hard pressed to find space for Teen Titans, but it might get in just for being years younger than shows like Batman the Animated Series.

Actually the celebrations may have to held off till we hear from the President.
The news actually has no proof at the moment, they're just reporting rumor.
Still apparently Obama is set to talk to the nation sometime tonight, so it might be more of a well founded theory than a simple rumor.
