Darcy is accepted, and yes please, so I shall know who I'm playing.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
Hub City has Started!
The Role Playing thread is viewable here. I have already posted the first post, including the forecasted weather for the day. Please read through it and then respond at your leisure with your character(s)' introductory posts. It can be as simply as them getting off a bus at the "Hub City Transit Station" if that is what you'd prefer.
Let's all enjoy ourselves shall we!

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
Since no one else has posted and I don't want to build up a backlog. I am foregoing my required daily post as GM for today. I hope players can use this time to read through the, admittedly large, post I provided to start the RP, and intro their characters sometime tomorrow.
If any one is having issues thinking of some way to introduce their character, or is unsure of what/where they might introduce them, please feel free to either post here in the discussion thread, or PM me directly with questions, concerns or anything else that might allow me to assist you with any problems you may be experiencing.

I'm so excited for this Rp! I hope you all don't mind me reading it even though I'm not participating.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
I think I'll not post today to give some of our players a chance to catch up on their reading.
Also; feel free to read through, and even comment (here) on the RP Archie. I know I love hearing about how awesome something that came out of my head is. :ego:

Must admit, I wish others were more inclined and motivated to post more frequently.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
I expect things will pick up a little once I've engaged all the characters. It's new and unusual that players don't instantly get to 'go into work' and meet up with one another. Most RPs are pretty slow till the adventure team meets, but I'm trying to give a realistic 'call to action.' In terms of the monomyth we're still before the call to adventure.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
I thought I might share some of my plans regarding how the main/player characters are going to meet up, since as you may have noticed they're not grouping together quiet as quickly as they would in a standard 'team' role play.
That is because in a standard team role play the heroes would have a reason to group together, and that would be the fact that they're in a group together. Think; Young Justice, everyone's beaming into Mount Justice together, even when they got new members it was because someone, Batman, Green Arrow, Zatara, brought them to the mountain.
In Hub there is no team; so the player characters may appear to be flapping in the wind at the moment; probably because they basically are. Yet! Never fear, for I have a plan for this.
While I wanted to attempt avoiding 'happenstance meetings' due to the fact that they seem like a shoddy excuse for having the main cast meet up. Instead it was my intention that it would be the main character's heroic nature that brought them all together; it should play out something like this.
The player/main characters drift around for the majority of their first day. Along the way they meet some of the locals (NPCs) and get to know what a day in Hub is generally like, while this is happening the criminal element is going about their criminal business, specifically, Marley and his crew are collecting protection money from most of the businesses in Hub.
At some point along the way someone non-specific isn't going to have the money to pay them, I'm thinking it'll be a comic-book shop just because that'd be ironic what with the whole 'superhero' theme and stuff. The mob will not take immediate action as this will be sometime around/past noon, I'm aiming for 12-2pm. Instead they will continue on with their daily rounds, and collect their money from the rest of Hub, hopefully bumping into player/main characters along the way.
Then at some point after dark; 8-9pm it is September after all, the trio shall return to burn the comic shop down to the ground with little to no regard for those inside or the adjoining buildings.
Cue heroism; the large bonfire/attempt arson catches the attention of one or more of the main/player characters. I figure Azalea and Arthur should be out costuming it up by this point, (just because it would be 'that night') as well as having Rhodes & maybe Mis hanging out with a slightly more sober and significantly more irate Dr. Occult. While the other player characters shall have hopefully acquired a distaste for the lack-luster-law in Hub, or otherwise obtained a motive to be superheroes; at this point I would accept 'was walking by and saw the flames' impulsive heroism.
Dr. Occult will encourage and assist those with him in the saving of citizens and fighting of the fire, and readily accept the assistance of anyone who shows up during the fire-fight {pun}. Then after the main cast/player characters have done what they can to be heroic and save citizens. Occult will advise they all retreat back to his place before the police show up and start asking questions about the group of masked and/or super-powered people who 'just happened to be in the area' when a massive fire broke out.
The main cast will adjourn back to Occult's offices for tea and cookies, bourbon for Occult, where you shall all get to know one another and Occult shall offer his building's services as a hotel/home base. Look out, the cockroaches will eat off your eyebrows if you sleep on the floor.
The Next Day! The mob shall be upset with superheroes having thwarted their attempted arson but frankly, I expect the majority of the building will be destroyed anyway, it's kinda hard for five-ten people to fight a fire regardless of their super powers, also fire suppressant hoses can cause as much or more damage than the fire itself to a building and it's contents {I'm lookin' at you Rhodes }
Then the team shall be assembled and we'll all go from there.
Feel free to ask questions.

Just a heads up. I realize it can be difficult to find the time/motivation to post, but I will be reinstating my 'posts once a day' policy. So if you can't post do at least try to read the posts so you won't have a tremendous backlog. Non-active characters can be just jumped to present pretty easily thanks to the Timestamps.

I'm going to go ahead and put of posting in Hub today so that I can work up a big ol' post to deal with the hour that's passed between the last post in the Deli and Rhode's entering.

Oh I thought it was like 9:50 something last post in the deli, which is why I thought it was okay for her to enter.

Np Rob, though I could've sworn I saw you have a post a couple days ago, but then it either vanished or was never there to begin with...
My brain plays tricks on me sometimes.
but it's okay because I have fun figuring them out.

I got my net back so once I take me a nap, maybe snag me some food, and wake myself up I'm gonna post in Hub!
Are you prepared?
You are not prepared! Muwahahah.
Nawh really it's nothin' big.
PS: Oh anyone know if Karm's doing any better? 'cause with the gun-battle outside the Deli wrapping it coming out to see if the bleeding recently-shot cute girl is okay seems like something Casey might be interested in doing.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
I am considering taking temporary control of the inactive player characters, just so I can personal set them up to be more active. Once they'd met the other player characters I'd relinquish control back to their original players, but I thought it might be helpful to have the GM sort of intro some of the characters so players don't have to second guess what they can commit to lore/introduce as canon themselves.
It would also let the characters belonging to some of our less active Players see some action.
Opinions?

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, it would let players have something to post about, but once you stop controlling them, we may be waiting in limbo because some members haven't logged on in months, and have yet to see them.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
Yeah, that's one of my major concerns myself. It was sort of my hope that if their characters were actively involved in the RP it would give some of our less active members a reason to get online and be active again. But without some way to contact them it's sort of just kinda... blah.
I don't know; I want Hub to be successful but at the moment it's just really You, Robin & Mame.
Also I want to get the player characters together as organically and quickly as possible; in part so that I can stop havin' to make four different posts as every time I post. It's not too bad, but it doesn't leave me with much creative juices left to move the plot forward.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
Right, I'm concerned about how some characters just seem to be really far apart, but at least everyone is syncing in time, now. I do have contact with both Red and Karmy now, but I believe Red has some problems about his computer or internet or something, and Karmy either just isn't motivated or busy.

Re: Hub City: Only dead if you want it to be.
Hmm, well internet problems are a different story. It's impossible to say when or if that'll get fixed, and until it does one can't really expect him to get on to read the forum, but as far as motivation goes, that's sort of what I hoped me taking over the characters temporarily would provide. I'd get the boring less interesting nitty of the RP out of the way, and then the players could take back over for the gritty bit.
Something like I take over Casey for the Rhode rescue, and then Karma can take him back once he's with Occult & Co. Gives her something to do more than just make sandwiches for mobsters.

I won't mind that at all. I'll tell Karmy the situation, she hasn't logged on for a month now and hasn't posted for over a month and a half. Maybe this will give her some motivation.
