Friday, September 1st
8:44-9:15 AM Local Time
Downtown- Uncle Lee’s Asian Market

“Okay.” The woman behind the meat counter said with a rather sweet smile; well sweet for Hub anyway, before fetching a rather large pair of metal tongs and plucking out roughly one pound of the teriyaki barbecue laying it out into a plastic, or possibly Styrofoam container, setting it atop a scale to discover that the amount came to one and two one hundredth of a pound. “You wanted a pound of this too?” She nodded to the salmon, already busy picking out a new pound.

“Yeah, fine.” Wound rubbed at his head with his palm almost as if he hadn’t been the one to inflict the slightly red spot atop his forehead. “I apologize if I’m being a little…” he didn’t really know the word he was looking for. He didn’t want to call himself awkward, or ‘dork-ish’ both of those didn’t seem to appropriately describe him, at least in his mind.

“Anyway I—uh.” He raised a hand to scratch at the bridge of his nose as; what he hoped was an effective decoy for his wandering eyes falling upon the redhead’s rear. He didn’t want to look, honest. It was just that, well she had bent over, and she was cute. He hoped he wasn’t blushing and restrained the urge to deliberately look away from her; that would show he’d been looking just as much as blushing.

He did manage to swallow down his hormones and keep himself from turning noticeably pink.

Downtown-Within a Taxicab

Casey ran a hand back through his hair, scratching at the back of his head as he looked down at the bleeding woman. He didn’t really have a good answer for her. He couldn’t really think of one either, not on the fly like this anyway…

He rubbed at the back of his head and became rather interesting in the cab’s ceiling. Why was he doing all this? It wasn’t his job to look out for people who got themselves shot, heck, he’d passed ‘concerned citizen’ sometime between deciding not to call the police and getting in the cab with her.

After a minute he just sort of shrugged and looked down at her in an accusing sort of way that he hoped made her sorry for asking in the first place. “Look, I don’t really have a good reason okay?” He hated saying it out loud; particularly with two and half people listening, he was fairly certain the cab driver didn’t care… the dude in the passenger seat might not have cared either; it was hard to tell just from his ear.

“You were bleeding, you were in front of where I work; do you really think you’d be better off if I’d left you there?”

Travis scoffed to himself as she sat in the passenger’s seat with his arms crossed over his chest and one foot up on top of the dashboard so he could recline in the seat. He didn’t buckle his seatbelt; he had no idea where or how far they were going, okay so that wasn’t entirely true he knew the location but honestly he didn’t have a clue how far it was from A to B, he’d need a map or something to figure that out and even then he wasn’t particularly interested.

He vaguely recognized the conversation happening in the backseat; but truthfully he wasn’t really all that interested in that either. This time his choice of non-response was to pad himself down as if someone had spilled red ants on him; locate his carton of cigarettes, roll down the passenger’s window, and light himself up with the aid of the cab’s cigarette lighter, which he might’ve been surprised it actually had if nearly every car in this god forsaken city wasn’t easily twenty years old.

He should really see about getting himself a totally pimpped out ride…

Maybe flame decals.

Friday, September 1st
10:19-10:24 AM Local Time
Stern’s End- Digger’s Field- North End

A couple of the younger guys actually chuckled as the group watched the overly excitable rat toss the recently deceased mole up into the air. Some of the younger girls squeaked squeamishly upon watching the dead rodent ragdoll through the air. Both genders did what they could to stay out of the enthusiastic rat’s path.

At least until there was a flourish of fabric and a fourteen year old albino made his overly ostentatious entrance; Sebastian Blood threw back his cloak as he stepped forward, his ‘mother’ a few feet behind him. “Salutations brothers and sisters.” Sebastian greeted his congregation with a toothy smile. “Such fine work you and your labors have brought.” He looked from the newly planted flowers to the dug up shrubs, letting his shall drape over his shoulders and arms as he stepped out into a place of prominence between the two groups digging and planting respectively.

And then his gaze fell upon the spectacle that was Esiasch and his fresh kill. The parasitic teenager’s red eyes opened wide and he threw his arms out to either side, unfurling his cloak for the second time in as many minutes. “Hark here and look!” He pointed to the rat and its recent kill. “One vermin slays another.” He stepped toward the rat and mole-carcass. “And so no better a metaphor could be found, for when one vermin slays another, no one weeps, no one cries tears of lamentation for the lost plague-bearer.” Sebastian took one knee, coming to cradle the mole carcass in his hands, lifting it from where the dead thing had fallen limp to the ground after Esiasch’s latest toss.

The pale priest cradled the carcass in his hands. “And so when life lays broken and mangled, not one yet not vilified by time’s passage but by reputation alone. Then the virtuous ride and the sons and daughters of the one true god shall be called forth, and the virtuous shall rise and the wicked shall fall for the truth of the world shall be laid barren and all shall know their sins as they are raised and hung by the noose of their own knitting!” Sebastian rose, first to his feet then lifted the carcass above his head, squeezing the dead thing in his fist until blood dripped from its wounds, running down his fist and across his arm.

Vermin are not to blame!” He cast the mole carcass to the earth. “Vermin are but instruments of the slothful! It is the work us; the virtuous, the honorable, and the truth to cleanse the lands of these cretins! Both this—“ he pointed to the battled mole corpse. “—blight bringer, this sack of foul vulgar filth and flesh, rooting about beneath the soil of the world; unworking the labors of those that dwell in the light. And so too, do we, the noble, the true; the pious! So too must we stand vigilant! That our labors be not undone by the filth that dwells beneath us, but that such rotted things are ground beneath our boot!” Sebastian stamped his foot atop the mole carcass, twisting his heel and laying his weight into it until you could hear the bones snapping and cracking beneath him as fluids seeped out and stained the dead grass.

“So that they may die! And that we may live; to prosper on the backs of the rotted sin to turn what was once barren, what was once plagued—“ Sebastian held one arm out to the yet unworked parts of the park, the barren dead or dying grasses shrubs and trees. “—into the splendor, that we, the pious! Do deserve. For not only do we labor in our devotion to the lord, but we labor for his splendor here. We labor to protect this world—“ He removed his boot from the mangled corpse of the mole. “—from that which would sully it.” He glowered down to the rodent’s corpse, his shall draping over him as he stood stark for a moment.

Rhode closed her eyes. Her head was spinning. He seemed nervous, she liked that. "Probably would be dead." she agreed, pushing her head to the back of the seat, trying to squeeze her head underneath the cushions in an attempt to apply pressure and slow the bleeding down. "Never been this wasted before." Rhode's words escaped from her mouth in a slurred mess as if she knew what she was talking about.

Casey felt his heart jump into his throat when he saw Rhode’s eyes close; that was something that dead people tended to do, at least as far as his knowledge went, he’d never actually seen a dead person before, and thankfully he still hadn’t as the bleeding redhead spoke up. Casey gave an audible sigh of relief as she spoke, even if she was only making moderate amounts of sense. “You damn right you would be…” He scoffed softly, adding just a bit of snarky sarcasm to his tone as he leaned forward in his seat to look out the front windshield; the taxi was slowing to a stop and he wanted to make sure it wasn’t because of something as… well, trivial as a red street light or a stop sign or something.

He was normally someone to respect the laws as much as they made sense to, but when there was a woman bleeding to death within a foot of him he figured it was okay to accumulate a few speeding tickets, plus it wasn’t like Hub City Taxi drivers were exactly known for their rigorously observation of the city’s traffic laws.

Fortunately for his heart, and probably the chick bleeding on the backseats too, they weren’t stopping because of something as mundane as traffic laws, they were stopping because they had arrived at their destination.

That being said; the cabby didn’t even pull over to the side of the road before braking and turning back to the teens. “Alright ’an we’re ‘ere, now get out b’fore you stain the seats sum more.” He shooed his hands at the two in the backseat.

Casey more or less tried to ignore him and just turned back to Rhode. “Can you walk? Or stand, or, ya’know, point out where your friend is?” The friend he really hoped had at least basic first aid training… the neighborhood didn’t look like one you’d want to be bleeding in.

Friday, September 1st

Downtown-Streets

Travis was finding it hard to care about the dying chick in the backseat. Sure it was a shame she was dying and what not; but people had a tendency to do that when someone removed half of their face… and in this city he could almost assume that she deserved it, plus it wasn’t like he knew these people, he didn’t even know why he was in the car.

When it came to a stop and the cabby began shoeing his fairs out Travis took the not-so-subtle hint and just popped the passenger’s side door and stepped out onto the street. He looked up and down the street and didn’t see anyone at all, the whole block seemed rather rundown, if not outright abandoned. “So… who are we looking for?” He perked a brow, pocketing his hands and looking back to the other in cab.

Friday, September 1st
10:21-10:25 AM Local Time
Downtown- Offices of Richard Occult

Richard couldn’t seem to get back to sleep, even sprawled out on the couch instead of upright in his desk chair; which was odd considering the amount of alcohol he’d downed in the past couple of hours. Granted it wasn’t every day that someone smelling of sea salt and sensuality stepped through his door, and in his younger days… eh; in his younger days he wouldn’t have looked twice at her.

Occult took another swig of his second bottle of liquor. At the rate he was going he was going to have to get some more from the store before passing out for the night; but hey, maybe he’d get lucky and die of liver failure before he ran out of liquor. “One can only hope.” The ghost detective muttered into the mouth of his bottle before tipping his hat down over his eyes and taking another swig.

Something rattled about upstairs and Richard pushed his hat up to gaze curiously at his ceiling. “Hey! Susan! Keep it down would ya! I’m trying to kill myself down here.” He muter that last bit into the mouth of his bottle, taking another long sip until his mouth tasted more like liquor than, well, his mouth. He didn’t really want to kill himself… but if he happened to stop living incidentally, he might not exactly put up the fight he would have in his youth. He had more things to live for in his youth…

Still it was odd that he was thinking about these things at all. Normally he just drank and passed out and then repeated the process the next morning.

Richard groaned and swung himself upright; a little too fast as his head filled with dizzy fuzz and he was forced to clutch his liquor bottle to his head until the blood in his brain evened itself back out. “It’s all her fault.” He muttered into his collar before taking another swig. It had been; what, decades?—since he’d had an honest visitor, and one with a pulse no less. The ghost detective gave a great sigh. “Fuckin’ girl.” He took another swig. “What’s she want to learn magic for anyway? It’s not like it’s good for anything.” He was about to take another swig when there was a heavy couple of bangs from upstairs. “Oh, you stay out of this…” He snapped back at the ceiling before taking his swig anyway.

She didn't tell respond to Casey, nor William, she did however crawl out and grabbed Casey's shoulder to help herself out of the backseat of the cab. Casey instinctively held her up and they walked toward the red brick building, with a dent the size of her fist on the facade of the building.

"This is it."

Even though she had heard the window roll down, the smell of William's smoke never seemed to invade her space, as the iron smell of blood filled her noses in the tight space of the cab, it just hit her. Casey did have the same scent; not that she had a problem with smoking she never understood the concept, since she lived her entire life under the sea.

Because she lived under the sea she could differentiate different smells underwater most people couldn't, so her naturally heightened senses made her hold her nose.

Staggering in the building with the two men, she looked for the stairs.

"Second floor."

Downtown- Uncle Lee’s Asian Market

The little Asian woman behind the counter weighed out approximately pound of the salmon fillet as well; before wrapping it up in a page of butcher paper and setting it and the barbecue together atop the counter. “Will that be everything?” She smiled softly to the young girl purchasing her product.

“Oh, I uh.” Wound rubbed at the back of his neck a bit as he tried to think of something to say that wouldn’t get him in trouble. He didn’t want to get in trouble. He bought himself a little more time by glancing down at the slip of paper he had been handed, unfolding it a little and looking at the address. “Oh, so… you live at the Elysian fields?” He raised an eyebrow toward the young girl in front of him. That place had a reputation all across Hub City.

“Order Up!” Called the pizza man, tapping the little silver bell atop his counter. “You two had the cheese?”

Friday, September 1st
10:21-10:25 AM Local Time
Downtown-Streets

“Of course…” Casey rolled his eyes softly upon hearing that the mysterious friend was on the second floor. It seemed like the perfect end to this whole fiasco. He hefted Rhode’s weight up onto his shoulders, making certain the bloody woman had an arm over his back as he hooked one arm beneath hers, around her back, and up beneath her other arm. On top of everything she was an awkward shape.

Casey tilted his head back as best he could with Rhode’s weight lying heavy across his shoulders and by his side. “Dude, a little help?”

Travis was still lingering beside the cab. “Hmm…” He drew on his cig. “Hauling some dying chick up a couple flights of stairs, getting bloody and junk along the way; nawh, not really my scene.” The mob-son smirked. “But wish ya best of luck with that whole, not dying thing.” He clicked his tongue toward Rhode, and then hopped in the back of the cab, trying not to sit in the blood. He rolled the window down and hung his head out. “Later man, hate to ditch on you like this but; ya’know. Places to be and whatever. Hope your girlfriend doesn’t die! Come on man let’s get outta here.” He added to the cabby before the two of them rejoined the lack of traffic in the street outside Occult’s offices.

Casey could hardly believe it, though he could also couldn’t blame the guy, it wasn’t like he had any relation to them. Hell he didn’t even remember catching the other man’s name. You could hardly expect someone whom you didn’t even know the name of to risk their life for you…

Something dawned on Casey somewhere around halfway up the second flight of stairs. He was almost up to the second floor. “Uhm, hey. I’m Casey, what’s your name?” He figured talking was probably a good thing; in all the movies when people were hurt they didn’t want them passing out so they tried to keep them talking… of course that could just be a ploy to fill the movie with expletive dialogue.

What's he doing? Is he making small talk? Can't he see he's got a bloody girl in his arms? Rhode didn't know what to think about this lad, he was coming off strangely to her, and she pictured him prioritizing getting her number over saving her life. It was funny. Made her laugh inside.

"Call me Aqua Girl."

It was the best she could come up with. No one had asked her, her name before, and Birds usually had their names hidden from the public to maintain their secret identity. Not that she cared that much since she was a foreigner and anything incriminating wouldn't really show up in records, but the idea of it sounded cool. She would of course regret this decision in the future and wish she had come up with something more unique. She was actually regretting it now.

”He took my mole”

Misji skittered up to her familiar and scooped him into her arms, holding him close as she gawked, open mouthed, at the spectacle that was Sebastian Blood. She looked worried, her wide, watery eyes darting from him to the members of his congregation and back again.

He was posturing and making such a big to do, the witch girl felt nervous and overwhelmed. Culture shock dictated her nervous shifting and she almost made to run back to Mable. She stood her ground however, and thought frantically about how she could make things right.

She came up blank and Esiasch offered no assistance as he merely kept repeating that the albino had stolen his mole and that he didn’t like him.

”The little shit TOOK. MY. MOLE”

“Esiasch! Shush! Don’t be rude” Misji nearly squeaked down at her familiar, speaking out loud without thinking. She took a step back from the speech giving youth and gulped, building her courage up until Sebastian was done talking. It would have been rude to interrupt him, it was such a passionate speech after all.

“Uhm” The witch child inched forward, hugging Esiasch tighter each time she got closer. “I am sorry we killed the mole. I….Was it a sacred mole? We didn’t know..I am sorry” Misji bowed her head in apologetic respect, to her, Sebastian was making such a huge fuss about the dead mole that she had no idea if she had allowed Esiasch to insult their culture, or if the boy was merely a crazy person.

“We can find you another mole!”

Sarah Bryne waited in line with her basket full of goodies and a leather jacket to conceal the twin pistols holstered under her arms. She wasn’t here on business-she just needed groceries. Or in this case she needed to pick up a few sundry items to bring over to Walter’s. She hadn’t heard from him in a few days and was starting to get worried; the big lug could hardly take care of himself these days, the venom was really doing a number on him.

Thankful the checkout line was moving quickly and it didn’t look like she’d have to wait long before heading over to Walter’s place. She was a little worried about how she’d find him. It wasn’t like the big guy to go too long without contacting her and with the venom addiction… well he couldn’t really take care of himself very well. She just hoped she didn’t find him dead or over dosed…

Her foot tapped nervously as the person in front of her stepped up to the checkout counter.

Friday, September 1st
9:35-9:40AM Local Time
Uptown-The Barracuda Club

Saul had never much cared for the atmosphere in the boss’s club. It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate the scantily-clad cigarette girls, the dim lighting, or the old timey performances. He totally got what Johnny was going for; it was a real rat-pack era club, probably one of the last. It was just that for him, crime had never been that glamorous; and here it was practically on display.

He currently found himself lounging back in one of the ‘personal’ booths; personal in the sense that there was barely enough room for five people to sit together platonically, near the rear of the club. It wasn’t an unusual situation for him to find himself in. Mr. Monroe tended to hang out at the Barracuda Club along with the rest of the local mobsters, and Saul’s job basically amounted to hanging around the people who had the authority to give him orders, and then doing what they told him to whenever they got around to telling him to do something. He’d gone entire days where all he did was sit around the Barracuda Club sipping fizzy water through a straw; he didn’t like to drink while on the job.

But he guessed that that was sort of part of his job too. He was a big guy, and definitely not one of the finer dressed people in club. He screamed ‘gangster’ from every angle and the way he saw it, that was part of his job too. Make sure the civilians knew you were about, that the gang had people like him ready and willing to break a chair over some poor sod.

He sipped his fizzy water; he still didn’t like the atmosphere though.

Friday, September 1st
9:50-10:10AM Local Time
Uptown-The Barracuda Club

Johnny grinned; it was an odd sight not entirely dissimilar to that of an extraordinarily excited chipmunk, he loved this time of day. It was right around this hour when the club really started hopping. Well, the club didn’t really start hopping until after dark, but ten was the time when it first started getting packed enough that it felt like a club for the rest of the day. He loved it.

There were the leg breakers lounging about, a couple at the bar one or two off in their own booths; if the place got too crowded they’d be asked to migrate to the kitchen or the back room but they weren’t at that point yet and really they didn’t normally get that crowded until the weekends, but the jazz band, some local group he forgot their names-something fishy he was sure, no jazz band worked in Hub unless they were working for the Barracuda Club these days, a sad fact Johnny happened to like the jive of jazz music.

Of course he just liked running a club. It was like owning his own party, except he could pay girls to dress up in skimpy outfits without having to ask if they were cops first; for the record he still asked them if they were cops, but that was more just for the looks on their faces when he did. He loved the reputation of the club almost as much as he loved the club.

Sure he’d had to make a few allowances to get to where he was; the Barracuda Club wasn’t the local heart of Mandragora’s mob just because Johnny kept the place stocked with drinks, drugs, guns, and attractive girls in unnecessarily short skirts. There was a room in the back for ‘business’ to be taken care of. There were always a couple of anonymous black cars parked around back; generally without license plates, and if anyone ever needed an alibi Johnny staffed five or six witnesses who saw them getting drunk at the bar when whomever was supposed to be doing whatever.

But that was just part of the fun.

Friday, September 1st
10:08-10:15AM Local Time
Paradise Lane-Uncle Ray’s Original Pizza

Brother wound just sort of stood by with his hands in his pockets as Victoria retrieved their pizza from the counter. He was too busy trying to think of an appropriate way to voice his current question. She had said that she wasn’t a hooker-or at least that was how Wound had chosen to interoperate her career; in no small part due to the fact that he didn’t really want to murder Victoria, she seemed like a nice enough girl, a little shy maybe but he wasn’t one to talk.

But is she was selling herself… Well; someone would rather die than resort to that right? So it was his moral obligation to kill people who were selling themselves, for their own good. But he didn’t really want to kill Victoria, she was nice, and if he did it would probably make her brother upset with him and he didn’t really have that many friends his own age. Maybe he could just ignore it?... No.

He rubbed at the back of his head and sort of stared at Victoria’s waist, trying not to make eye contact with her while still trying to look like he was paying her attention while he thought. Brother Flay had said that if you didn’t want to do something you shouldn’t do it, that the only reason people did things that they didn’t want to do was because they were too weak or scared to bear the consequences…

“H-hey…” He finally spoke up in a rather small voice even for him, turning his back toward the pizza counter as he tried to sort of coax Victoria out into the street with him. “Uhm…” He didn’t really know how to bring up the subject, and then it came to him, like a light in his head. “Did you know that like; according to my faith,” okay saying that made him feel like he was some sort of missionary or something, but he was just going to plow through it. “people who do things that they don’t want to do are either weak or scared. It makes sense when you think about it. I mean, there’s plenty of stuff I did before I found The Religion that I didn’t want to do… and I was a pretty meek and scared guy.” He was still pretty meek but he was getting off subject. “So, uhm… has there ever been anything you’ve done that you didn’t really want to do? Ya’know. Something that you only did because you were scare of what might happen if you didn’t, or like, because someone stronger than you made you do it?”

He winced a little, that whole thing felt about as subtle as a train wreck and about as smooth, but at least now he’d know if he had to murder the girl he was on a date with, he really hoped not.

…wait was this a date?

Friday, September 1st
10:25-10:30AM Local Time
Downtown-Offices of Richard Occult, Private Detective

“Aqua girl huh?” Casey tried to shrug, it was a lot harder when you were carrying a possibly dying girl on your shoulders. “Isn’t that name taken?” He tried to smirk as they came up to the door that read;

“Richard Occult
Private Detective”

“Huh.” He assumed that was the right door, given the ‘Occult’ the bloody girl had murmured early. It took some work but Casey was able to get the door open without setting Rhode down. He was less impressed with what he found on the other side than.

Richard Occult, the famed Ghost Detective, the man who’d fought cancer at Chernobyl, quite literally, was sitting behind his desk, attempting to drown himself in what appeared to be vodka. Richard did have the good manners to wipe his lips once he saw that he had company. “What the hell?” He sat up from his desk, wobbled a little and just sort of instinctively grabbed his orb from atop some papers. Adrenaline was coursing through his blood for the first time in a decade. “Did the ‘ater ‘ompany do ‘is to ‘er?” He was a little slurred, and bumped his hip into his desk as he tried to get around his desk.

“’ere lay ‘er out on the ‘ouch.” Occult motioned toward the couch, which, over the years, had honestly had worse things seep into than a little fish-chick blood. Casey wasn’t sure if a drunk private detective with a metal tennis ball was the best person to listen to as far as medical advice went… but Rhode was getting heavy and he’d come this far.

Friday, September 1st
10:30-10:35AM Local Time
Stern’s End- Digger’s Field Park, North End

Sebastian turned and looked to the little witch girl almost as though he was confused to see her standing there. “Ah.” He almost cheered, sweeping his arms out to either side as he stepped toward her. “And it would seem we have a new member of our holy congregation.” He laid his hands atop Misji’s shoulders. “And such a modestly dressed one too…” He added as a not-quite complement.

“Now Sebastian, don’t crowed the poor child.” Susana quietly chided, shovel in hand.

Sebastian did step back removing his hands from the young blue child. “Ah, forgive me.” He offered Misji a slight bow, taking a step back. “Allow me to introduce myself.” He rose from his bow with a grandiose toss of his shawl and raised one hand up over his head. “I am Sebastian Blood the Ninth. Son of Sebastian Blood the Eight, grandson of Sebastian Blood the Seventh, great grandson of Sebastian Blood the Sixth, great descendant of the great Saint Blood the first; he who was spoken unto by the lord, he who was chosen to speak the words of the lord unto the world and he’s whose sons are chosen to inherit his blood, that they may speak the words of the lord unto the world in his name!” Sebastian thrust his arms out to either side raising them up over his head and tossing his head back to look up to the sky, before dropping into a sweeping bow once again.

“Allow me to welcome you to our humble little congregation; and introduce to you, my mother.” He held one hand out toward Susana, rising from his new bow. “The matron of our holy congregation.” The pale child actually let his hands settle in at his sides, his shawl falling down over his shoulders. “How have you come to us?”

Friday September 1st

Downtown-Kirby Cakes

Tony Dechinko wiped his face, cleaning a generous amount of chocolate cake and frosting from his lips as he sat back in the manager’s office of Kirby’s Cakes having finally worked his way through the majority if the cake he had; not exactly bought from the owner. His companions had moved on a little while ago; once it had become apparent that Tony was going to be spending more than a little while polishing off the entire cake he had not-purchased, which he was doing primarily because he wanted to avoid walking down the street with his hands full of cake. He was a member of the mob, he had some pride.

Still; he was feeling kind of… well kind of fat. He did just eat an entire; well maybe three-fourths, of a large decadently chocolate cake.

“Urp.” He padded his chest a little, and momentarily entertained asking for a glass of milk or something… but he’d already commandeered the owner’s office so he could sit down while chewing through a couple pounds of chocolate temptation.

The King Crab rubbed his chin with his napkin for a moment more, trying to make sure he didn’t have chocolate on his face before rising from the seat he’d occupied for the duration of his cake and heading out the door; he left the cake tray where it was, let the owner clean up after him, it was just one of those little perks that came from being a top ranking mobster; that, and being able to shoot people in the face.

Friday, September 1st
10:30-10:40AM Local Time
Downtown-Stanley’s Comic Shop

“Dude, you know how this works. Everyone in town knows how this works; just pay us and we won’t have to hurt you.” Erik tried to reason with the shop owner, they’d been over this like a hundred times with a hundred different shop owners, and even before them the mob had other people doing the exact same job.

“You owe three month’s payment, plus interest.” Karen added with her usual dry tone, clicking away on her P.D.A. like she didn’t have a care in the world beside the little data assistant. Though it was the data on the little digital thing that kept track of how much people in this city owed and how much they had already paid.

“Look, I can’t pay you. Comics just aren’t selling like they used to.” Answered back the aging old man who owned the store “Maybe if you cut back the price…” He pleaded with obvious intent.

Marley brushed his hand back through his hair and looked over to Alicia. He knew what had to be done. “You pay the same as everyone else, and you haven’t even paid that the past three times. We’ve been plenty generous already, more generous than we need to be. Bottom line; pay now, or else.” He tried to sound threatening, but something in his tone sound more like he was trying to be threatening than actually carrying any menace to it.

“I don’t know what you want me to do, comics aren’t selling. I saw a bit of an uptake with the new publications but people just aren’t coming in like they used to.” The old man shrugged. “I just don’t have the money to pay.” He finally answered.

Marley was unimpressed. “Then I hope you’ve paid your insurance.” He tossed his head to Alicia and Stingray, still coming off as more attempting menace than actual menace, and stormed out of the shop. The little bell that rang whenever you opened the front door didn’t help his mood any.

Friday, September 1st
10:40-10:44AM Local Time
Downtown-Street

The trio were halfway down the block before anyone said anything.

“So, what’d we do now?” Alicia asked with honest curiosity, turning to look to Erik as he fumed down the sidewalk.

“He’s not going to pay.” Karen added dryly, already looking up the next business’s ‘debt’ to the mob.

“I know that.” Marley answered back with a bit of vinegar.

“So, what’d we do about it?” Alicia inquired again.

“We fuck him up that’s what we do.” Erik answered back with a bit less ill. “I just have to figure out how.”

“This newfound pissy-ness wouldn’t have anything to do with what Mr. Dechinko said; about you not knowing how to be a ‘real’ mobster would it?”

Erik actually stopped and looked back to Alicia at that one. “Fuck Mr. Dechinko.” He cursed. “Look we’re the next generation of the mob, so I say it’s time we started acting like it. We’re finishing rounds, then you two meet me at the club. We’re gonna borrow a bare-back, come back here, and burn that fuckin’ shop to the ground. No more nice guy, no more credit. It’s time we showed we’re just as bloodthirsty as the old school.” He said with a huff.

Karen just kind of shrugged, Alicia still had questions; “Doesn’t that guy like, live in that building? If we burn the place down he could lose his home and his livelihood. If we don’t warn him he could even die.”

“He just got his warning.” Marley added, dismissively waving a hand back toward Alicia. “If he still doesn’t think he’s in trouble then it’s just all the more reason we have to do this. Its past time people take us seriously. Now what’s the next place?” He turned to Karen.

“After-School Academy, just down this street.” She pointed ahead to a little nook place for grade-schoolers to get dumped to study until their parents got home from work. “They’re paid up, except for this month.”

Marley wasn’t pleased.

Someone already used Aqua Girl? If it was anyone it must have been Tula, but wasn't she dead? Rhode had never really paid that much attention to her King, she was of no royal blood. She only longed to grow close to him to get to the surface. Tula wasn't even really born in Atlantis, yet she, and Arthur got mixed into the royalties.

"What if someone has your name? Does that mean they can't use your name? I must know four different Barbara's."

This of course was a lie, she only knew one Barbara, but she thought of the first person's land name she could think of and just assumed it was common. Plus she was bloody and practically delusional.

When Casey opened the door, the familiar voice of the drunk came from across the room. She tried to mind her footing, not to get too much blood on his carpet. Rhode had been set on the couch, back flat against the cushions. It felt nice. Better than the back of the cab, of course.

"Got in a fight. Never made it to--"

She thought about it for a second; why would the water plant people carry guns that could so this sort of damage? This town. Only this town. Rhode smacked her lips trying to get the sticky sensation off her face, as if it would do any good.

"Other guy had a gun. Should have just broke his hand. Could have. Believe me. Next time. I swear."

A long pause between shortened breaths, her left eye still blinking as her right side of the face was still peppered with gunpowder and pellets.

"What do you say doc, can you use your magic baseball and heal me? Pay double in advanced. Oh. Yeah. He took the cash. Your cash. Sorry."

No use in hiding it, she felt like he was going to ask eventually, better get it out of the way while she was still bleeding to death.

Stern’s End- Digger’s Field- North End

Misji was very impressed by all his blustering and speech giving, if not insanely overwhelmed. But by his behavior she decided he was not angry that she’d let her familiar kill a mole. She did take a few steps back, tilting her head one way then the other as she simply absorbed the vision that was Sebastian Blood.

He looked so strange, almost as odd as Theo had looked but he was pale, sorta like everyone else but almost like something had eaten all the color in him. It wasn’t until a few moments after he’d asked her his question that she snapped out of her blatant staring and cleared her throat. The witch girl offered up a wriggly, nervous smile as she stared off at the hole where Esiasch had found his mole. “I—Well, to be frank I came from a hole in the ground. You see I was exiled from home, and popped out here and Miss Mabel found me and she was lost….So I helped her find this place”

”You don’t have to tell him a damn thing. He’s got a bat face!”

“Shush Esiasch!”

Interrupting herself to shake the rat in her arms, the rodent gave a loud hiss and wriggled his way out of his girls arms, crawling instead up to her shoulder to perch there and bare his large, jagged teeth at the albino. Misji ruffled at his horrible behavior but turned her attention back to Sebastian, albeit with flushed features due to her familiars embarrassing behavior. “Pardon, I decided since Miss Mabel was so kind to us that I would assist her”

Monday, March 20
11:45-11:55 PM Eastern
Atlantis Imperial Palace

Rhode stood at attention, back straight, facing forward. Gaurds lined up on both of her sides, the King at his throne. A servant brought forth a medallion forged from gold and finely crafted jewels to Arthur, he stood as he wrapped the gold chain around his fist and approached the young red head.

"For bravery, for leadership, and for keeping peace in the Seven Seas..."

Her heart was pounding against her chest, she could hear it as blood pumped through her ears and she forced herself not to smile, yet not to grimmice either. Her parents were watching in the sidelines as other civilians gathered to watch the ceremony.

"Rhode Graves!" The King spoke in a loud thunderous voice, "I am honored to grant you the Medallion of Glory."

Rhode bowed her head as the King's arms wrapped around her crown and placed the medallion over her neck. The viewing crowd cheered, her heart was now in her neck, and she could barely control her breathing. Rhode had never been this close to the King, and this could be her key to the surface.

"With this, you will lead the Eastern Armies of the sea while I am away with Justice League business." he announced beaming at her, both hands grasping her shoulders firmly.

What?

The crowd continued to cheer, as Rhode felt her heart slowly sink. What was once euphoria became confusion, and a realization that she might be here for the rest of her life. The King turned and threw his right arm over Rhode's shoulder bringing her into his chest and waved that the adoring crowds. In real-time, he must have only been waving for less than five seconds, but her crushed dreams made it feel like the moment was lasting forever. Her confusion quickly turned into bitterness, and from bitterness to anger.

Rhode's dead frame came to life when he pushed away from her King. The crowd quickly stopped, a slight gasp fell over the audience and a hush. Being unexpected, Aquaman stumbled back and nearly fell. He didn't, but it was still a shock to him.

"Rhode, what's the matter?"

She didn't know how to explain herself, she didn't actually see herself doing this. How did everything go wrong so quickly? She couldn't talk without choking up. Her eyes welled, and her balled up fists turned a pale white.

"I thought you'd be happy. Isn't this what you've been working for?"

How would he know what she's been working for? Before today, she was another mindless drone without any asperations or dreams in his eyes. She just recieved the highest of honors, and what was the point of his recognition if she couldn't visit land. Yet she knew what he would say if protested. Instead her enraged mind only thought insult would be the best option.

"Why did you even decide to come here? You shouldn't even be King."

Rhode ripped the medallion from her neck, and tossed it to his feet. She realized she wasn't making any sense, but she didn't care.

"The only reason you're King is because some honry fisherman screwed our Queen."

With that she stormed out. The guards were about to chase her, but Aquaman held them back.

"Let her go." He said, "She's no longer apart of us."
